Sasha Anand

Artist, scientist, and optimist!

Welcome!

My name is Sasha Anand and I am an aspiring educator and scientific researcher. I am interested in connecting young women with educational opportunities to combat gender inequality on both a local and global scale. Taking the first steps within my community, I founded Hands-On Math, an academic service that integrates creative expression with mathematical learning. My passion for the arts and music prompted me to create a curriculum to engage children in a subject that many find daunting to approach.
"Your power is your radical self. Find it."

Exploring STEM

As a competitive debater, I have explored feminist IR theory and Freudian psychoanalysis. I am interested in learning about how social conditions impact women's involvement in higher education. Within the debate space, girls tend to face discrimination as it is a male-dominated activity. I have used my role as a debate captain to create an inclusive atmosphere for all students. My experiences have translated towards teaching piano to special needs students, tutoring high schoolers in chemistry and mathematics, and coaching peers in public speaking.
I have ventured deep into scientific inquiry, with a co-authored paper accepted to the American Federation of Medical Research and a previous internship position at UCI. Further, I am curious about advanced mathematics, pursuing a degree in computational biology and bioinformatics at UCLA. I want to transcend disciplinary boundaries and teach peers that one can be a scientist, artist, mathematician, or anything they aspire to be. Limitations based on subjects prevent people from reaching their full potential. Check out Hands-On Math through the "Outreach" link to learn more about what I do!
